Chapter 18

Cayla felt Dex’s muscles stiffen underneath his dress shirt. She’d been in a constant state of arousal since her tears had dried up. Their ability to disagree even when they weren’t trying amazed her. The moment she craved his usual boldness was the time he’d decided to be a gentleman. His sweetness was endearing, but she wanted his touch to help her forget about her failing career. She wanted her mind to be void of everything but pleasure. She needed him.

Dex stared down at her with his hands still resting in the pockets of his slacks. His heart pounding under her hands was the only sign that she affected him. The heat from his body seeped through her palms and warmed her entire body. In that moment, she wanted Dex more than she wanted anything.

They were a breath away from each other. It wouldn’t take much to kiss his lips and taste him the way she craved, but she didn’t know how to be the seductress. It’s a role she’d never had to play. Right now, she was too fragile to put herself out there completely just for him to turn her down. Not with the day she’d had. A rejection right now would surely kill what was left of her self-esteem.

Instead, she stood in place and studied him. She watched the pulse in his neck before staring at the elusive dimple that his clenched jaw exposed. Her Valentine’s Day desire to touch it returned. Cayla lightly slid her finger across his cheek, his light beard tickling her finger. The sensation aroused her more than it should; a simple touch elicited the drop of courage she needed to push forward.

Cayla took a step back from Dex. Her gaze held his as she tugged her towel away from her body. It dangled briefly between her thumb and forefinger before hitting the ground. Dex’s eyes roamed her body; the intensity in his eyes had his irises warring between gray and blue. His white linen shirt shuddered over his heaving chest and his erection was clearly outlined in his charcoal slacks. He loosened his tie as he spoke.

“Have you ever used music with sex, Cayla?” The richness of his tone gave her pause.

“You mean mood music?” Cayla inquired.

Dex smiled as his eyes took on a naughty glint. “No. The music is part of the sexual experience.”

Cayla frowned, not completely understanding. “As in playing a bunch of songs during sex?”

Dex’s lips tipped up more as he pulled her back into his arms. Her soft naked body pressed against him. His scent mesmerized her again. Cayla loved being back in Dex’s arms far more than she wanted to admit. She didn’t want to be attracted to him or ache for his touch when he was not around. Yet, she couldn’t help wanting him. She hoped it was just a hormonal reaction to him that would fade after more sex. His erection nudged her with each breath, teasing her more by the second.

Dex kissed her gently, his lips firm and non-exploratory.
